Tom Stienstra’s Electrifying Wildlife Encounters
Tom Stienstra has been charged by a black bear at point-blank range in the Kings Canyon wilderness and by a grizzly bear on the Moraine River in Alaska. He has tracked and sighted eight mountain lions and found and reported the first wolf in California a full year before it was announced by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
This new presentation features a series of outrageous photographs of bears, mountain lions, and bobcats, as well as creatures you might find in your backyard. Sharing his expertise and experience, Stienstra will detail the best locations in California for sighting bears, lions, deer, elk, bobcats, and other wildlife, as well as tips for attracting the highest number and diversity of migratory songbirds to your feeders.
Sierra Crossing: An Evening with Tom Stienstra
Imagine walking in the footsteps of trailblazers and explorers across a pristine landscape that looks much as it did 5,000 years ago. The crossing of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range offers towering canyon rims, ancient virgin forests, pristine lakes and creeks, waterfalls and hot springs, wildlife for which you are a curiosity and not a threat, and some of the best wilderness trout fishing in America.
Tom Stienstra will make two appearances to share his story of the 70-mile crossing from east to west, as the first pioneers would have seen it. The narrative, photography, and interaction will capture both the outdoors experience and the timeless feel in this epic landscape.
