Adventure Giveaway Winner Announced

Congratulations to Fred Shahroooz Scampato, the winner of our recent adventure-themed giveaway!

We asked readers to submit their most adventurous travel story via our website, or on the Moon Facebook and Twitter pages. We got some great responses that ranged from giving birth in Brazil to white water rafting down the Nile, but Fred’s story really captured our attention. Here’s what he had to say:

“Years ago when I was a teenager, I went on a trip with my parents to various parts of Iran. When we arrived in Mashad, Iran, my mother wanted to go to a very famous and sacred shrine. Unfortunately, it was not safe for westerners to go there and as I was blond and blue eyed, I would especially stand out. So, I agreed to go dressed in a chador and to keep my head down so that people wouldn't see the color of my eyes. I thought was great fun and had a great time knowing that I was perhaps one of the few westerners to ever visit that site at that time. Of course, looking back on the event as an adult, I am surprised that my mother took the risk! But I'm so glad she did.”

Thank you, Fred, for sharing your story with us. Your $25 gift card to REI is in the mail.

National Parks Promotion Giveaway Winners Announced

We have two winners in our National Parks promotion giveaway. A big thank you to everyone who participated and told us all about your favorite National Parks.

Auriette Lindsey of Pensacola, FL is the winner of the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. Auriette’s favorite park is Death Valley National Park. Here is what she had to say about it:

“Since I was 12 years old, I have loved Star Wars, and one of the most exciting moments of my life was visiting Tatooine. I stopped at the Death Valley Visitor Center, and the guide kindly and without condescension or disdain pointed me to Golden Canyon. It's where George Lucas filmed R2-D2 getting kidnapped by the Jawas…it is a favorite memory that will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Auriette plans to use the pass to visit several National Parks, including Gulf Islands National Seashore, which is near her home. We hope she gets the chance to visit Death Valley (aka Tatooine) again as well. May the force be with you, Auriette!

Our second prize winner is Amber G. of Naperville, IL. She shared her love for Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska: “It is so serene and magical, I literally feel like I am in another world,” she said about the park. Amber will receive copies of Moon Acadia National Park, Moon Yosemite, and Moon Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

Thanks again to everyone who entered. Keep reading and our Facebook and Twitter pages for information on our future giveaways.
