Anchorage’s finest and freshest produce can be found at the Anchorage Market and Festival (907/272-5634, www.anchoragemarkets.com), held at the downtown parking lot on 3rd Avenue and E Street every Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. mid-May–mid-September.
More than 300 vendors offer local arts and crafts, a diverse mix of finger food—everything from salmon quesadillas to sweet funnel cakes—and, of course, produce. Live music and entertainment add to the allure.
Be sure to stop by the Kahiltna Birchworks (907/733-1309, www.alaskabirchsyrup.com) booth, where you’ll find distinctive and flavorful birch syrups and caramels created from Michael and Dulce East’s home in the Alaskan bush.
A smaller Wednesday Market takes place at Northway Mall 9 a.m.–4 p.m. July–early October.
