Historic Taku Glacier Lodge (907/586-6275, www.wingsairways.com, early May–Sept., no overnight visits) sits just across Taku Inlet from the glacier of the same name. This classic log structure was built in 1923, and short nature trails lead into the surrounding country. Black bears and eagles are frequent visitors (the bears were Juneau garbage bears that would have been shot if they had not been brought here).
Visits to the lodge cost $260 adults, $220 children and include a half-hour scenic flight over Taku Glacier along with two hours at the lodge and a filling salmon lunch or dinner. Flights depart the Juneau waterfront up to five times per day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Taku Glacier Lodge is oriented to the cruise-ship crowd, so expect to see lots of other folks if you go on a day when several ships are docked.
