Breakfast and Coffee
The Diner (244 Illinois St., 907/451-0613) serves breakfast anytime—with gigantic portions, efficient service, and reasonable prices. It opens daily at 6:30 a.m.
Popular with families, The Cookie Jar (1006 Cadillac Court, 907/479-8319, www.cookiejarfairbanks.com, Sun. 8 a.m.–4 p.m., Mon.–Thurs. 6:30 a.m.–8 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 6:30 a.m.–9 p.m.) offers a full breakfast selection (available all day, $6–18), giant cinnamon rolls, and espresso. Lunch and dinner are also available.
Alaska Coffee Roasting Company (4001 Geist Rd., 907/457-5282, www.alaskacoffeeroasting.com) serves the best espresso drinks in town, but their fresh-baked breads and pastries (from a wood-fired oven), sandwiches, mini-pizzas, free Wi-Fi, and friendly setting are the real attractions.
Inside the Coop Mall, River City Café & Espresso (523 2nd Ave., 907/456-6242, Mon.–Sat., $4–7) is a popular heart-of-town coffee fix with sandwiches and ice cream. College Coffeehouse (3677 College Rd., 907/374-0468, www.collegecoffeehousefairbanks.com, daily, $4–10) is out by the university. Both of these have computers (for a fee) and Wi-Fi (free).
