June’s Whittier B&B (907/472-6000 or 888/472-2396, www.breadnbuttercharters.com) consists of 12 condo suites on the 14th and 15th floors of Begich Tower, starting for $155 d in a one-bedroom apartment, up to $245 for a three-bedroom unit that sleeps six. A continental breakfast is included.
Housed within Whittier Manor, Soundview Getaway B&B (907/472-2358 or 800/515-2358, www.soundviewalaska.com, $120–145 d) features four condo units with full kitchens and Wi-Fi.
It’s hard to miss the Inn at Whittier (907/472-3200, www.innatwhittier.com), an elaborate New England–style building right on the harbor. Now owned by Hooper Bay Native Corporation, the hotel has 23 standard rooms ($169–189 d) and a pair of two-story townhouse suites ($249 for 4 guests).
Camping (907/472-2670, $10) next to Begich Tower is plentiful, with secluded spots for tents and RVs, and a shelter for cooking and socializing in the rain. There are no hookups or running water, but you can use bathrooms on the first floor of Begich Tower, and showers are available at the harbormaster’s office.
