A string of hotels along Macleod Trail south of downtown picks up highway traffic as it enters the city. Most mid-priced chains are represented, with the following being just a sampling.

$100–150

Most of the chain motels along Macleod Trail fall into this price category. Book in advance or online to pick up rates around $100 a night.

Southernmost of the motels on Macleod Trail is the 34-room Stetson Village Inn (10002 Macleod Trail SW, 403/271-3210 or 888/322-3210, www.stetsoninn.ca, $111 s or d), an older-style place tucked between shopping malls.

The Best Western Calgary Centre Inn (3630 Macleod Trail SW, 403/287-3900 or 877/287-3900, www.bwcalgarycentre.com, $149–159 s or d) may be close to the geographical center of the city, but it’s not downtown as the name suggests. Each of the rooms is decorated in a bright and breezy color scheme, and comes stocked with amenities such as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. On the premises are an indoor pool and a fitness center.

A few blocks farther south, with a C-train station on its back doorstep, stands Holiday Inn Macleod Trail (4206 Macleod Trail SW, 403/287-2700 or 800/661-1889, www.holidayinn.com, $149 s or d), where the 150 rooms were last renovated in 2009. Facilities here include a large indoor pool, a restaurant, and a lounge.
