Performing Arts
At the hamlet of Rosebud, 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of Drumheller, students in residence showcase their performance skills at the Rosebud Theatre (403/677-2001 or 800/267-7553, www.rosebudtheatre.com). The fun actually starts across the road from the theater in the restored Mercantile Building, where the actors and actresses serve up a buffet meal. Then everyone heads over to the 220-seat theater for a lively production, always lighthearted and often with a rural theme. Check the website for a schedule.
The Canadian Badlands Passion Play (17th Street, 403/823-2001, adult $32, child $15) is a theatrical production of the life of Jesus Christ. The three-hour production is an ambitious affair, with a cast of hundreds in a natural outdoor amphitheater with bench seating for 2,500 set among the badlands. It takes place six times through the month of July.
