Together, the provinces of Chaco and Formosa form the Gran Chaco, a hot, humid lowland stretching from the banks of the Paraná and Paraguay to the Andean foothills, and across international borders into Paraguay and Bolivia.
While the Argentine Chaco has a low international profile, the Chaco provincial capital of Resistencia is a magnet for the visual arts and the region’s backcountry national parks are treasure troves of wildlife. The trans-Chaco route from Resistencia to Salta has become popular with travelers from the Esteros del Iberá to Salta, and vice versa.
