More than any other lower Chubut settlement, Gaiman has sustained and capitalized on its Welsh heritage. Though it’s known for tourist teahouses, sturdy stone buildings, and community events like the Eisteddfod, several new B&Bs have made it a destination rather than just an excursion.
Gaiman (pop. 4,300), 17 kilometers west of Trelew via RN 25, dates from 1874, when Welsh farmers first harnessed the river to irrigate their fields and orchards. The aboriginal Tehuelche gave it the name Gaiman (Stony Point).
