For jewelry, clothing, antiques, and home furnishings, head to the upscale Shoppes at Palmilla (Km. 27.5, Carr. Transp., Palmilla, tel. 624/144-6999, www.lastiendasdepalmilla.com), on the north side of Mexico 1 at the Palmilla Resort exit.
Among other boutiques, the eclectic Galeria Pez Gordo (tel. 624/144-5292, www.pezgordogallery.com, 10 A.M.–8 P.M. Mon.–Sat.) represents more than 40 contemporary artists based in Baja and throughout Mexico. Works range from oil and acrylic to wax, collage, and photography.
At Km. 16, across from the Marbella Suites Hotel, the Regional Center of Popular Arts and Crafts (9 A.M.–5 P.M. Mon.–Sat.) has a small glassblowing factory and several artisan workshops. Prices here are lower that what you’ll find in San José or San Lucas.
