Planning Your Time

The drive from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos via Mexico 19 and the West Cape takes approximately one hour—making it an easy day trip for visitors who are staying in the Los Cabos area—or a slightly longer drive (90 minutes) directly from the airport.

You can take in most of what Todos Santos has to offer in a full day of sightseeing, covering the historic buildings and galleries in town and a beach or two along the coast. But as with most other towns in Baja, you’ll enjoy the West Cape infinitely more if you stay long enough to wander kilometers of virgin, as-yet-undeveloped beaches stretching north and south from Todos Santos along the Pacific, explore the steep western escarpment of the Sierra de la Laguna, or simply hang out and soak up the small-town ambience.

Backpackers often plan multiday trips into the sierra from the West Cape. If that sounds too challenging, guides also run half-day hikes as well as trail rides on ATVs.

A day of fishing or surfing could also lengthen your stay.

Of course, if you’re into these activities, a day probably isn’t enough. Surfers can easily spend a week or a month trying to master the winter breaks here. And the fishing—whether by boat, surf rod, or hand line—is just as addictive.
