HOURS: Mon.–Sat. 4 p.m.–2 a.m., Sun. 5 p.m.–2 a.m.
There are two completely different kinds of bars here (as well as a popular and inventive restaurant that you shouldn’t miss). In the upstairs lounge, beneath an elaborate chandelier, you can have a cocktail and watch traffic glide past on Charles Street. After that, you can dine in the expansive, wood-paneled dining room, hung with contemporary paintings (don’t skip the rosemary fries!).
Then head downstairs to the dark, catacomb-like basement bar, and sample the beer that made this place infamous: Resurrection, a potent dubbel-style ale. This bar has gotten national attention as a must-patronize tavern, and once you’re tucked into a dark, medieval brick corner with a well-crafted ale, you’ll understand why.
