Baltimore has embraced a lot of new cuisine trends and movements—local producers, tapas, even some fusion—but there are still a few classic Baltimore restaurants that stick to the tried and true, usually in a exquisite setting. The Brass Elephant is one of these stalwarts.
Tucked within a grand old Mount Vernon mansion, the ambiance here is robber-baron Baltimore (note the many elephant-themed items in the building), and the food is Italian/Continental with modern American inspirations (such as parmesan-crusted rockfish, placed in a bowl of minestrone soup).
This is an “occasion” sort of restaurant, so dress accordingly; then have an after-dinner drink and dessert at the great Tusk Lounge upstairs.
