While hotels catering to the latest trend may come and go, the Oriental, after 130 years, has stood the test of time. The large lobby, with soaring ceilings and floors covered in oriental rugs, sets the stage for a luxurious and refined experience.
Those two themes are consistently reinforced through the swimming pool with individual salas (sitting areas), generous breakfast buffet on the Chao Phraya, and gourmet restaurants on the premises. The rooms are spacious and decorated either in neocolonial or traditional Thai style.
The Authors’ Suites, named for the famous literary figures who’ve stayed here, including James Michener and W. Somerset Maugham, are lavishly decorated and gigantic at around 102 square meters.
