Run by local photographer Deke Erh and Shanghai historian Tess Johnston, this small café is replete with antiques and books. A big, curved bookshelf takes pride of place in the tastefully decorated room.
Together, Erh and Johnston have put together an invaluable body of work to document and preserve Shanghai’s history in the face of development and destruction, he with his camera and she with her words. Erh’s special focus is Shanghai’s art deco architecture; the city has the highest concentration of art deco buildings anywhere in the world.
