Zhongshan Dongyilu, near Huangpu Park
METRO: East Nanjing Road (Line 2, Line 10)
This bridge might not be one of the prettiest sights in Shanghai, but it is definitely one of the most historically interesting. It is the only camelback truss bridge of its kind in Asia; it was built by the engineering firm responsible for the Victoria Bridge over the Zambezi River. It also offers a view of both the Bund and the Pudong skyline.
Until 1856 the only way to get from the Bund to Hongkou district was to hop on a rickety ferry, so a bridge was commissioned to span the Suzhou Creek. The original wooden viaduct was replaced in 1908 by the latticed bridge you see today (known as Waibaidu by locals), which carries over three million vehicles per day.
