The Belize Zoo: This famous, lush home for animal ex–movie stars and more is an easy stopover as you travel between Belize City and points south and west. It is also home to the Belize Tropical Education Center, where educational and study opportunities abound.

Guanacaste National Park: An easy stop along the Western Highway, this 50-acre patch of forest has flat, well-maintained hiking trails through massive trees and ferns that the whole family will enjoy.

Roaring River Golf Course: Shoot a leisurely 18 holes at this relaxed set of links, just west of Belmopan.

George Price Centre for Peace and Development: This museum and library is an educational, air-conditioned homage to Belize’s first prime minister.

Blue Hole National Park: Get out the hiking boots, binoculars, flashlight, and a bathing suit for a visit to this park and St. Herman’s Cave, halfway down the Hummingbird Highway.
