The 15-room Willow Stream Spa and Health Club (Fairmont Southampton Resort, 101 South Shore Rd., tel. 441/239-6924, www.willowstream.com, day spa and fitness center 6:30 a.m.–9 p.m., salon 10 a.m.–7 p.m.) is the island’s biggest and most popular spa. One of six Willow Streams at Fairmont hotels around the world, it is one of the chain’s most successful, thanks in big part to a devoted island clientele. Bermuda residents rave about Willow Stream’s hot stone massages, rose hip body wraps, shiatsu, acupressure, and hydrotherapy treatments, not to mention the setting: terraced gardens, ocean-facing hot tubs, and an indoor pool with waterfalls. Sex and the City–style girlfriends’ retreats fill the place year-round on weekends.
The 31,000-square-foot spa has made strong overtures to male patrons as well, with exclusive den-like lounges for guys, sports massage treatments, a “Gentleman’s Barber Facial,” and a “Keep Your Shorts On” allowance for novice spa-goers. Specialities include the Sea Splendor Body Oasis, with eucalyptus foot soak, exfoliation, aromatherapy bath, massage, and body wrap (two hours, $339); Hip Honeymooners (for couples, 60 mins., $369); Jet Lag (60 mins., $179); Beyond Botox Facial ($179); and Bermuda Stone Massage (90 mins., $249). The spa offers a hair and nail salon, steam room, sauna, women’s and men’s lounges, and couples’ lounge and treatment room. The fitness center has a full range of Cybex cardiovascular and weight-training equipment and a personal trainer.
Small but professional, La Serena (The Reefs, 56 South Shore Rd., tel. 441/239-0184, www.thereefs.com, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. daily) specializes in Thai massage. Paraffin wax is used for manicures and pedicures and herbal products are featured in various services. With five therapists and two treatment rooms, the spa is open to guests of The Reefs, as well as outside clients. Thai body treatments include a two-hour session ($190) and an 80-minute session ($145). Other treatments include the Deep Rock (50 mins., $105), a Balinese Body Scrub (25 mins., $60), and a 100-minute couples massage ($380). Body wraps and other treatments use Thalgo products, made with algae and sea minerals. Special packages include a daylong treatment with lunch at the resort restaurant ($285).
Serenity (Pompano Beach Club, 36 Pompano Beach Rd., tel. 441/234-0222 ext. 218, serenityspa2 [at] hotmail [dot] com, www.pompanobeachclub.com, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily) is an oceanfront spa, with two of its three treatment rooms overlooking the dizzying turquoise shallows of the West End coastline. Three therapists provide an assortment of hot stone facials and massage, body, and mud treatments. Some of the more intriguing are the Chocolate Aroma Massage (50 mins., $105); the Couples Mud Treatment with full body massage (90 mins., $360); and the Lemongrass Stress Relief Massage (50 mins., $240).
