Veridiana (Rua Dona Veridiana 661, Higienópolis, tel. 11/3120-5050, www.veridiana.com.br, 7 p.m.–12:30 a.m. Sun.–Thurs., 7 p.m.–1:30 a.m. Fri.–Sat., R$30–40) is named after Dona Veridiana, a baron’s daughter and early feminist who scandalized late 19th-century Sampa when she divorced her husband and turned her palatial mansion into a famous literary salon (where she also entertained her lovers).
Today the cathedral-like interior is home to the city’s most sumptuous pizzeria. Exposed brick walls lit by candlelight cast a warm glow on the tables, often filled by celebs who swear by the medium-crust pizzas topped with delicacies such as escarole, imported anchovies, and wild boar.
