Sports and Recreation
Although Jericoacoara feels as if it’s at the end of the world, there is lots to keep you occupied apart from sprawling in a dune with a book. Sand activities range from yoga and capoeira classes to navigating the dunes by buggy, sandboard, or on horseback.
A five-hour buggy outing to Tatajuba (with a stop for a fresh lobster lunch on the shores of Lagoa da Torta) costs R$160 for up to 4 people. Contact the Associação dos Bugueiros (tel. 88/3669-2284) or Agência By Boogie (tel. 88/3669-2277). Horses can be rented from the Associação dos Cavaleiros, on Praia de Jericoacoara for R$25 an hour.
Meanwhile, Jeri’s ideal wind conditions make it a fine place to indulge in surfing, windsurfing and, especially kitesurfing. Club dos Ventos (tel. 88/3669-2288, www.clubventos.com.br) provides lessons for beginners and rents equipment to fans of both kitesurfing (R$150 for four hours) and windsurfing (R$100 a day). The best season for both sports is between June and December when wind conditions blow at an average of 25 knots.
