Travelers with dogs and cats are welcome at the pet-friendly Carmel Country Inn (Dolores and 3rd Aves., 831/625-3263, www.carmelcountryinn.com, $245). The Inn does not, however, welcome children under six years old-it’s a romantic hideaway, not a family motel. Rooms and suites boast comfortable furnishings that feel more like a friend’s home than a generic hotel—you may find a fireplace, a reading nook, or even a Jacuzzi tub inside.
Despite its ghastly name, the cliff top Tickle Pink Inn (155 Highland Dr., 831/624-1244, www.ticklepinkinn.com, $314) offers tasteful luxury. Each room has a view of the ocean, an array of high-end furniture and linens, and all the top-end amenities you’d expect from a distinctive Carmel hostelry. For a special treat, shell out for the spa bath suite and watch the ocean while you soak in the tub with your sweetie.
