At the west end of Ocean Avenue, you’ll find the (occasionally) sparkling white sands of Carmel Beach (Ocean Ave., 831/624-4909, daily 6 a.m.–10 p.m.).
This lovely stretch of south-facing sand offers free running for canine guests, bonfires south of 10th Avenue, and all the surfing, wading, and sunbathing (when there’s sun) you can handle.
Enjoy the beautiful local cypress trees and consider bringing a kite to fly on this often windy beach.
