For more views and exemplary American cuisine, stop by the Duck Club Grill (400 Cannery Row, 831/646-1706, www.montereyplazahotel.com, daily 6:30–11 a.m. and 5:30–9:30 p.m., $30) in the Monterey Plaza Hotel. Steaks, lamb chops, and the namesake duck are what’s on order here and the extensive wine list offers many complements.
Montrio (414 Calle Principal, 831/648-8880, www.montrio.com, $15–20) is another entry in elegantly casual Monterey dining. The crab cakes are legendary.
