For a classic American breakfast, it’s tough to do better than the Red Hut Waffle Shop (2723 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, 530/541-9024, $5–12, cash only). This down-home waffle spot serves classic crispy, thin waffles (if you’re looking for huge, fat Belgian waffles, this isn’t your place), plus biscuits and gravy, omelets, and plenty more.
Locals recommend the waffle sandwich, which is a complete breakfast in a single dish. Expect to wait for a table or a seat at the counter on weekend mornings, as this spot gets popular with both visitors and residents.
