In addition to Boreal, another great beginner hill is Tahoe Donner Downhill (11603 Slalom Way, Truckee, 530/587-9444, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., adults $25–35, children $10–15). With only four lifts (two of them conveyor belts) and 120 skiable acres, Donner seems miniscule.
But it’s a great spot to bring your family and get a feel for your board or your skis, take a lesson, and enjoy the California snow in the beautiful [node"44314 link Tahoe] forest.
