To break the monotony of life along the I-5, the town of Redding hosts a number of monthly and annual events. The annual Redding Rodeo (715 Auditorium Dr., 530/241-8559, www.reddingrodeo.com, admission $11.50) acts as the annual star, with a weeks’ worth of events each May. The rodeo itself runs from Thursday through Saturday and includes all the traditional riding, roping, and racing events.
For a slightly more refined day out in Redding, come out to the Beer and Wine Festival (530/243-7773, www.vivadowntownredding.org, late Sept.) and Blues by the River (Lake Redding Park, www.shastablues.com, late Sept.)—two great festivals that are deliberately held together.
