Boating and Fishing

If you’ve got a canoe, a kayak, or a rowboat, bring it on up to Lassen in the summertime. Many of the small to midsized lakes on the mountain allow unpowered boating and fishing. While most of the lakes on the west side of the park near the road are too small to boat, out east Juniper, Snag, and Butte Lakes have plenty of space to row or paddle out and enjoy the serenity of water and earth. No boat rentals are available inside Lassen National Park.

Several varieties of trout inhabit the larger Lassen lakes. All you need is a pole, some bait, and a valid California fishing license. Manzanita Lake offers catch-and-release fishing only, but at all the other fishable lakes you’re welcome to take a state limit of rainbows and browns. Fishing from several campgrounds makes it easy to enjoy the freshest dinner possible.
