If you’re looking for the bleeding edge of style when you shop for jewelry, you can’t do much better than the Los Angeles Jewelry District (bordered by 5th St., 8th St., Broadway, and Olive St., www.lajd.net). With more than 3,000 wholesalers, even the most avid lover of sparkly stones and glittering gold will get her (or his) fill here.
Do be a little bit careful if you’re a woman alone, especially at dusk or later, as this isn’t the squeakiest clean part of downtown L.A. But you can shop in reasonable peace here, and even in some confidence that you won’t get ripped off so long as you do some preliminary research.
