For an inexpensive stay on Coronado Island, visit the El Rancho Motel (370 Orange Ave., 619/435-2251, www.elranchocoronado.com). A few blocks from the Del, the beaches, and the downtown area of Coronado, the El Rancho lets you enjoy the high life without the high prices.
Each unit of the El Rancho has its own air conditioning, TV, fridge, and microwave, plus a comfortable bed and a pleasant tiled bathroom. You’ll feel right at home in the small lodge-like motel with its white exterior and mostly matching interior.
Be sure to ask the innkeeper (who lives on-site at the motel) about the best food, shopping, and good beach spots on the island.
