One of the few pleasant lower-budget La Jolla accommodations is the Sands of La Jolla (5417 La Jolla Blvd., 800/643-0530, www.sandsoflajolla.com). It’s not located in the center of the action, which helps the price point stay a little bit lower, but you can still use a car to reach the beaches, the La Jolla Cove, and the top attractions in San Diego proper.
Inside, you’ll find pleasant motel rooms furnished with light woods and sunny yellow wall and window treatments. Deluxe rooms and suites offer full kitchenettes, and all rooms have refrigerators, microwaves, and toaster ovens to help you save money by buying some of your own food from the store rather than a pricey restaurant.
This nice little motel also offers family-friendly, multi-bed rooms and suites for great beach vacations.
