Old Town is more about the history, shopping, and sights than it is about dining. Most locals head downtown for a meal. But if you really want to eat here, Mexican food is your best bet.
In Old Town’s little corner of Mexico, Bazaar del Mundo, you can find some great South-of-the-Border eats in a variety of styles and price ranges. Join the party at Casa Guadalajara (4105 Taylor St., 619/295-5111, http://bazaardelmundo.com, Mon.–Thurs. 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Fri. 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Sat. 7 a.m.–11 p.m., Sun. 7 a.m.–10 p.m., happy hour Mon.–Fri. 4–7 p.m.). From the moment you see the low, whitewashed, adobe-style building with the red-tiled roof, you’ll start to feel the Mexican atmosphere.
Inside, enjoy the music of strolling mariachis as you sip a margarita and dine on excellent regional Mexican cuisine. The seafood-heavy menu features Mexican classics as well as the chef’s unique creations. Be sure to check out the daily specials!
