Wilson Creek Winery & Vineyards

A large extended family owns and runs most every aspect of the Wilson Creek Winery & Vineyards (35960 Rancho California Rd., 951/699-9463, www.wilsoncreekwinery.com, daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m., $10). You might even catch a Wilson when you visit the light, bright tasting room.

You’ll find some different wines here — one of the Wilson mainstays is Almond Champagne, a truly special occasion beverage. Other sweet wines might include Muscat Canelli, Angelica cream sherry, chocolate port, and luscious late-harvest red wines. (You might want to avoid the “white” wines made from red grapeve varietals, though. They can be a little bit strange.)

More traditional wine lovers will enjoy the hefty Cabernet, Zinfandel, and Petit Sirah. On the other hand, if jazz is your favorite vice, check the website for the annual calendar of concerts held on the purpose-built stage.
