Palio d’Asti (640 Sacramento St., 415/395-9800, www.paliodasti.com, lunch Mon.–Fri. 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., dinner Mon.–Fri. 5:30–9 p.m., $15–33) is one of the City’s elder statesmen. The restaurant has been around since just after the 1906 earthquake, and the decor in the dining areas recreates an era further gone in the Old Country.
Try either lunch or dinner, and enjoy the classical Italian menu, which includes wood-fired handmade pizzas as well as homemade pastas and classic Italian entrées. If you’re in the City in fall, be sure to stop in and sample the luscious, expensive, and exceedingly rare Piedmont white truffles.
