One of the most famous restaurant locations on the San Francisco coast is the Cliff House. It’s been through a number of different restaurants over the decades. Currently, the high-end eatery inhabiting the famed facade is Sutro’s (1090 Point Lobos, 415/386-3330, www.cliffhouse.com, daily lunch 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., dinner 5–9:30 p.m., $18–36). The appetizers and entrées here run to seafood in somewhat snooty preparations.
Though the cuisine is expensive and fancy, in all honesty it’s not the best in the City. What is amazing are the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows of Sutro’s out over the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. These views make Sutro’s a perfect spot to enjoy a romantic dinner while watching the sun set into the sea.
