Few restaurants grace the wilderness and abandoned forts of the Marin Headlands. Never fear: The fine dining and fast food of Sausalito and Tiburon are a short drive away. You can also pick up supplies for camping or hostel cooking in either of these towns.
In addition to quaint bedchambers, you can get hearty food at The Pelican Inn (daily lunch 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m., dinner 5:30–9 p.m., $15–30). Dark wood and a long trestle table give the proper Old English feeling to the dimly lit dining room. The cuisine brings home the flavors of Merry Old England, with dishes like beef wellington and shepherd’s pie, and sherry trifle and bread pudding for dessert. Though breakfast is served only to overnight guests, lunch and dinner are open to anyone who passes by. True fans of the Isles will round off their meal with a pint of stout.
