The Marina and Pacific Heights shelter some of the amazing amount of money that flows in the City by the Bay. The Marina is one of the San Francisco neighborhoods constructed on landfill (sand dredged up from the bottom of the ocean and piled in what was once a marsh).
It was badly damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, but you won’t see any of that damage today. Instead, you’ll find a wealthy neighborhood, a couple of yacht harbors, and lots of good museums, dining, and shopping.
