The Chateau Hotel (4195 Solano Ave., 707/253-9300, www.thechateauhotel.com, $100) actually has a pleasantly unpretentious motel feel. The guest rooms are reasonably sized with colorful decor, carpet, and linens. Some rooms offer larger baths or sink areas where you can really spread out if you’re staying several days.
Choose from an array of room arrangements, including two-bed rooms that work well for families or couples traveling together who want to save money on lodgings. The Chateau Hotel even has some smoking-allowed rooms—a diminishing rarity in California.
At only two stories, it’s easy to get to whatever room you’ve rented, even if it’s been a long day wine tasting. The pool and spa beckon guests morning, noon, and night, and both remain heated even in winter.
