If you’re a novice in the world of fine food and wine, or if you’re an expert, it’s more than worth your time to stop at COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food, & the Arts (500 1st St., Napa, 707/259-1600, www.copia.org, daily 10 a.m.–6 p.m., free). This center seeks to educate and enlighten all visitors on the subjects of both food and wine. After purchasing admission tickets, begin your visit downstairs where you’ll be treated to a taste of the day’s wine.

Beyond the tasting, you’ll find an interactive interpretive exhibit on wine. This is the perfect place for wine newbies to learn enough to get comfortable in even the snootiest Napa Valley tasting rooms. Next, you can purchase a card and use it to learn about wine tasting in the best way—by doing it.

Note: At the time of publication, COPIA closed suddenly with future plans to be announced. Please call to confirm before planning a trip.
