Once you’re on the trails of Skyline Wilderness Park (2201 Imola Ave., Napa, 707/252-0481, www.skylinepark.org, daily sunrise–sunset), you may forget you’re even in the Wine Country. Up at this park, no vineyards encroach on the natural chaparral landscape of Napa’s high country. This park includes the Martha Walker Garden—a botanical garden planted with California and Napa native plants in honor of a legendary figure in the local horticultural community.
The rest of this 850-acre park is given over to multiple community uses. You’ll find halls suitable for events, campgrounds, hiking trails, horse and bike paths, a disc golf course, and more.
Be aware that it gets hot here in the summertime, and not all the campgrounds and trails offer adequate shade to cool visitors off. Even so, the natural beauty of this protected wilderness makes Skyline Park a favorite with both locals and travelers to the Wine Country area.
