Unlike many wineries that cling to Old World traditions, J Winery (11447 Old Redwood Hwy., Healdsburg, 888/594-6326, www.jwine.com, Thurs.–Tues. 11 a.m.–4 p.m., $10–55) loves the cutting edge of the California wine scene. J specializes in sparkling wines, California style. Their tasting room is a triumph of modern design, and their tasting experience gives visitors a taste of the best that Wine Country has to offer.
Instead of the standard tasting bar and pouring staff, J has tables and wait staff. And instead of just the standard one-ounce pour of a bunch of wines, you’ll be served the wines with specially paired small bites of high-end California cuisine prepared in J’s own kitchens by their own team of gourmet chefs.
You’ll get the chance to taste J’s sparkly vintages as they are meant to be enjoyed—with an array of (often spicy!) foods.
