Conveniently located on the square in downtown Sonoma, the tasting room at Charles Creek Vineyard (483 First St. W., Sonoma, 707/996-6622, www.charlescreek.com) beckons visitors with a giant cork cow standing proudly in the middle of its floor. This only-in-Wine-Country objet d’art was won at a charity auction, and now entices people to wander into the tasting room to take a closer look. Once inside, it’s worth your time to taste the wines, too.
This smaller production winemaker purchases grapes from Napa and Sonoma to create boutique Chardonnays, Merlots, and Cabernet Sauvignons. The winemaker takes care to produce vintages that are easy to drink, especially with food.
