Theater and Music
The Valley Visitors Center Auditorium (Northside Dr. at Yosemite Village visitors center) in the heart of Yosemite Village acts as home to the Yosemite Theater. For an evening of indoor entertainment, check the copy of Yosemite Today you received at the gate for a list of what shows are playing during your visit.
Most plays are one- or two-man productions; all center on the theme of the rich history and culture of Yosemite National Park. The John Muir Performances, starring resident actor Lee Stetson, have been running for 25 years.
It’s worth making an evening trip out to Wawona one evening to listen to the delightful piano music and singing of legendary Tom Bopp. He plays vintage camp music (and requests, and whatever else strikes his fancy) in the Piano Lounge at the Wawona Hotel (209/375-1425) five nights a week.
Older visitors especially love his old-style performance and familiar songs, but everyone enjoys the music and entertainment he provides. Even if you’re just waiting for a table at the restaurant, stop in to say hello and make a request.
