Parque Zoológico del Centenario (Av. Itzaes at Calle 59, 999/928-5815, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Sun., free) is the city zoo and a popular spot for families, especially on weekends. The park has kiddy rides, playgrounds, and an overwhelming number of concession stands. The zoo has a decent selection of animals but the cramped quarters can be upsetting. The aquarium, with its extensive goldfish wing, is skippable. On Sundays, magicians, clowns, puppets, and theater groups come out in full force to entertain children and their parents.

Ángel y Andrea (Calle 55 between Calles 62 and 64, tel. 999/923-0705, 3–7 p.m.) is the puppet theatre company formed by master puppeteer Wilbert Herrera. Shows are ostensibly for children (and in Spanish only), but plenty of adults attend, and emerge equally delighted. The season runs September–January, during which performances are held on Sundays at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.; tickets are US$4.
