Alberto’s Continental Patio (Calle 64 at Calle 57, tel. 999/928-5367, 1–11 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 6–11 p.m. Sun., US$11–24) is a superb choice if you’re looking for a change of pace. Specializing in Lebanese dishes, it is set in an 18th-century casona that is said to have been built with stones from Maya ruins. Diners can choose between eating at a candlelit table in a vine-covered patio or in a softly lit dining room decorated with antiques. The prices are a bit high considering the menu—tabbouleh, grilled kabobs, and cabbage rolls feature prominently—but the food is tasty and the service top-notch.

Café Alameda (Calle 58 between Calles 55 and 57, tel. 999/928-3635, 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. daily, US$2–5) is a simple restaurant—think plastic tables and fluorescent lights—serving inexpensive Lebanese cuisine. Popular with locals and expatriates, the menu is varied and the food outright delicious. If you can’t decide on just one entrée, consider ordering a few side dishes to make a meal. Don’t miss the baba ghanoush (grilled eggplant spread)—it’s one of the best we’ve ever had.
