Hampton Park Area

Expansive Hampton Park is a favorite recreation spot for Charlestonians. The surrounding area near the east bank of the Ashley River has some of the earliest suburbs of Charleston, now in various states of restoration and hosting a diverse range of residents.
Hampton Park is bordered by streets all around, which can be fairly heavily trafficked because this is the main way to get to The Citadel. But the park streets are closed to traffic Saturday mornings in the spring 8 a.m.–noon so neighborhood people, especially those with young children, can enjoy themselves without worrying about the traffic.
This is also where the Charleston Police stable their Horse Patrol steeds.
