The closest multiplex to Savannah’s downtown is the Victory Square Stadium 9 (1901 E. Victory Dr., 912/355-5000, www.trademarkcinemas.com), which also hosts the screenings of The Reel Savannah Group (www.reelsavannah.org, reelsavanah [at] hotmail [dot] com), a nonprofit that brings in foreign independent releases one Sunday a month.
The historic Lucas Theatre for the Arts (32 Abercorn St., 912/525-5040, www.lucastheatre.com) downtown is a great place to see a movie, and the Savannah Film Society hosts screenings there throughout the year. Check the website for scheduling.
The Sentient Bean Coffeehouse (13 E. Park Ave., 912/232-4447, www.sentientbean.com) hosts counterculture and political documentaries and kitsch classics at least two nights a week.
