Technically, the Speed Street festival is all about NASCAR: The streets in Uptown are closed for revelers to celebrate the annual running of the Coca-Cola 600.
Vendors sell race memorabilia, NASCAR show cars and simulators are on-site, and it’s almost impossible to get within 500 feet of the stage during driver appearances by NASCAR greats like Jamie McMurray, Richard Petty, Kyle Busch, and Mark Martin.
The music also draws a crowd. Top acts like Clint Black, The Wreckers, Loverboy, and Gavin DeGraw have appeared during past festivals. Speed Street held its first event in 1994. Over the past 15 years, attendance has topped 400,000 per year at the three-day event.
