There must be a pamphlet circulated during freshman orientation or commercials on the college radio station, because every student at UNCC knows about the Flying Saucer. Most nights (and a lot of afternoons) it’s a standing-room-only crowd.

The beer is part of the appeal—there are 82 brews on tap and more than 102 bottled beers behind the bar—but the college-aged female servers wearing super-short kilts and knee socks aren’t hurting business either. The servers aren’t just cute; they know their beer. Go ahead, ask about anything on the menu and they’ll be ready with an answer or a recommendation.

During Pint Nights bartender-selected brews are just $3. Join the UFO Club and work towards becoming part of the Ring of Honor. Patrons who drink 200 different brews are rewarded with a plate, engraved with their name, the date, and a personal motto, that is hung in the bar. Reading quotes like, “My Student Loan Paid for This” just might be more fun than playing a game of quarters.
