Cascada Las Golondrinas

The sloping multipart Las Golondrinas falls gets its name—Swallows Waterfall—from a cave behind the main curtain of water that’s a favorite nesting area for the loud energetic birds. A low wooden footbridge extends across the river at the foot of the main cascade, making for a cool and misty vista point. Several small pools are popular for swimming and wading.
At the entrance are several palapa umbrellas with small tables beneath them, plus bathrooms and a modest eatery.
The turnoff to Las Golondrinas falls is about two kilometers north of Nueva Palestina (before entering town, if you’re coming from the highway); from there it’s another kilometer down a dirt road to the parking area and entrance. You can also walk by trail to the falls from Campamento Po’op Chan, about three kilometers each way. Admission is US$1.
